MEYLE launches shock absorbers optimised for Tesla Model 3, with a focus on comfort and durability

United States. MEYLE announced the expansion of its product portfolio with a new shock absorber set designed specifically for the Tesla Model 3 – a direct response to the growth of the electric vehicle aftermarket and the increasingly evident needs of electric vehicle owners.

The company highlights that this new solution combines greater driving comfort, high durability and a design that facilitates installation in the workshop. The development points to an expanding segment of the aftermarket, in which many first-generation Tesla Model 3s already exceed 150,000 to 200,000 kilometers and require suspension replacements.

"The suspension systems of Tesla vehicles are exposed to increased wear and tear due to the high vehicle weight and power delivery of the electric motors," explained Sönke Schwenck, Head of Cooling, Filter & Damping at MEYLE. "At the same time, long-standing feedback from the Tesla community and media reports, such as Consumer Reports, show that the driving feel on older models is perceived as uncomfortable. We have addressed both points in the development of the product: more durability, more comfort, without compromising stability."

Increased comfort and stability compared to OE components

The new shock absorbers integrate a modified damping curve that absorbs road irregularities better than the original components. Independent tests carried out by DEKRA also confirmed the increased strength of the shock fork, which helps to reduce the load on particularly wear-prone parts in this model, such as the control arms and brackets.

In order to meet the demands of electric vehicles, MEYLE incorporates:

  • KTL coating for corrosion protection.
  • Special oil that maintains performance even at low temperatures, a key attribute for northern European markets.
  • Reinforced body and 16 mm piston rod, which increase resistance under high loads.

Faster installation thanks to innovative design

One of the most outstanding novelties is the C-shaped design of the front shock absorber, which allows it to be inserted laterally without the need to completely disassemble it from the drive shaft, as is the case with the original part. The longer threaded rod, included mounting materials and an oval pin wrench also contribute to faster assembly and reduced workshop times.

The launch is part of a context of growth in the European spare parts market. According to data from Mordor Intelligence, the industry will grow from $107.8 billion in 2025 to $126.2 billion in 2030, driven in part by the growing demand for maintenance for electric and hybrid vehicles.
