Germany. The company announced the expansion of its offering of repair solutions for the EMR3 electric axle used in Stellantis models, which will allow workshops and dealers to avoid complete replacement of the system in the event of failures.
Until now, when electric vehicles such as the Opel Mokka-e or the Peugeot e-208 presented problems in the electric motor, the reduction transmission or the power electronics, the only alternative was to replace the entire electric axle, with the consequent increase in costs.
With the availability of the Schaeffler E-Axle RepSystem-M and E-Axle RepSystem-G systems for the EMR3 axle, workshops can now intervene both the electric motor and the gearbox. The kits include OE-quality bearings and gaskets, plus detailed instructions developed by the REPXPERT network. As a complement, the electric shaft repair tool allows rotor and stator to be disassembled and assembled without contact, reducing physical effort and minimizing the risk of damage by magnetic forces.
"The workshop receives everything from a single source: the necessary spare parts, the repair instructions developed by our REPXPERT specialists and the optimal tool for safe installation," explained Stephan Niese, Head of Global Product Management for Electric Mobility at Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions.
In addition, the company presented the new Schaeffler Vitesco E-Axle PEU KIT, an unprecedented solution in the market to repair the Power Electronic Unit (PEU), responsible for the conversion and control of electrical energy. It will be available from the end of February.
"The failures of the PEU are due to damage to supply lines or connecting parts, for example, from animal bites," Niese said. "Until now, there were no spare parts available for this type of damage to the EMR3 axle. A faulty coolant hose could force the entire shaft to be replaced. With our new kits, workshops can now carry out these simple repairs on the PEU themselves."
The new kits include components such as hose connectors, clamps, protection plate, screws, signal wiring harness and sealing elements, along with technical specifications such as sequence and torque, ensuring accurate installation of original equipment.
With this expansion, Schaeffler covers the three main modules of the EMR3 axle – engine, gearbox and power electronics – in a context in which these vehicles, introduced since 2019, are beginning to leave the warranty period and arrive in independent workshops. According to the company, the solutions already cover more than half a million vehicles registered worldwide.
