Continental celebrates 20 years of tire production in Camaçari, Brazil

Brazil. The Continental company commemorates the 20th anniversary of its tire production plant in Camaçari, located in the metropolitan region of Salvador, Brazil, consolidating a key milestone for its operations in the country and throughout the Americas.

Since its opening in April 2006, the plant has produced around 136 million tires, supplying both vehicle manufacturers and the aftermarket in Brazil and South America. This performance has positioned the company as a reliable partner in the region, with a product offering for passenger and commercial vehicles.

In the last decade, the company has invested about 1.2 billion Brazilian reais (approximately 235 million euros), reaffirming its long-term commitment to the Brazilian market. These investments have been focused on strengthening the competitiveness of the plant, with an emphasis on efficiency, product quality and adaptation to customer needs.

"Our 20-year journey in Camaçari is a story of continuous growth, operational excellence and our people's deep commitment to this region. I would like to sincerely thank all of our employees for their outstanding contribution, as well as our customers for their continued trust," said Shander Basílio, Continental's tire plant manager in Camaçari. "Looking ahead, we are committed to writing the next chapter of our plant's success."

Currently, the plant employs nearly 2,000 people, making it one of the leading industrial employers in the region. Teamwork, consistency in quality, and a clear customer orientation are key pillars for its performance in a highly competitive environment.

Local production with regional impact

The Camaçari industrial complex, developed as a greenfield project in 2004 and officially inaugurated in 2006, produced its first tire in November 2005: a ContiEcoContact 3 model. Today, the plant is an original equipment supplier to major automotive manufacturers such as General Motors, Volkswagen, Renault, Honda, Fiat and Mercedes-Benz, which is evidence of its high quality standards.

"The production center in Camaçari is a key asset for our business in the region," said Rodrigo Bonilha, director of Continental Tires South America.
"I would like to congratulate our manufacturing team in Camaçari on its 20th anniversary. The plant is a key asset for our business in the region. By manufacturing premium tires locally, we guarantee a reliable supply for the Brazilian market, while ensuring valuable local jobs. This 'in the market, for the market' approach is critical to deliver consistent quality and performance to customers and consumers," added Rodrigo Bonilha.

Advances in sustainability and efficiency

The focus on continuous improvement also drives the plant's contribution to the company's sustainability goals. Through constant monitoring of energy consumption and responsible management, the facility seeks to maximize efficiency in energy use.

Among the actions implemented is the use of 100% LED lighting and the technical optimization of production processes, such as the better insulation of key machinery. These measures have made it possible to achieve significant annual energy savings, with a total reduction of 10.4 GWh in 2025, equivalent to approximately 5% of the plant's annual energy consumption.

With two decades of operation, the Camaçari plant has established itself as a strategic pillar for Continental in Latin America, combining local production, job creation and sustainable advances in an increasingly demanding market.
