Hankook Tire Receives Recognition for Sustainable Business Management

United States. Hankook Tire & Technology has been noted for its innovative approach to sustainable management.

The company has been recognized as one of the "World's Most Sustainable Companies in 2024" by TIME magazine and global data and business intelligence platform Statista. In addition, Hankook Tire was named among the "Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders 2024" by Statista and the international newspaper The Financial Times.

This year, TIME and Statista released their list of the "World's Most Sustainable Companies of 2024" for the first time, evaluating 5,000 predominant global companies , of which 500 were selected, including 15 companies from Korea. The evaluation criteria included more than 20 sustainability-related performance indicators and data disclosed by each company. Hankook Tire received high marks in these criteria, demonstrating its global competitiveness.

The Financial Times and Statista's "Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders 2024" list assessed changes in greenhouse gas emissions and reductions relative to sales from 2018 to 2023. Hankook Tire emphasizes the importance of sustainable management throughout its organization. Through a strong sustainable and ESG business management system, the company promotes the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire product life cycle, from raw material procurement to manufacturing, sales, use, recycling and disposal. The company also strives for the use of renewable energy, the optimization of energy efficiency and the introduction of new energy technologies.

The company focuses on the development of sustainable products through the research of innovative technologies. A meticulous Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is performed throughout the manufacturing process, including tire weight optimization techniques and 3D printing technologies.

Thanks to its eco-friendly achievements, Hankook Tire became the first company in the Korean tire industry to receive approval for the SBTi's carbon reduction targets in August 2023.

In addition, Geumsan's plant in Korea was the first in the industry to obtain International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS in 2021, followed by the Rácalmás plant in Hungary in September last year. These achievements are propelling the global tire industry towards more sustainable management through the use of sustainable raw materials.

Hankook Tire plans to continue to strengthen its responsibilities and role as a global leader in sustainable management, continuously pursuing innovative ESG achievements in various fields.
