Study Analyzes the Impact of AI on Battery Development

International. Monolith's new study, called AI for EV Battery Validation , finds that two-thirds of senior decision-makers feel pressure to reduce physical testing, expecting engineering artificial intelligence (EngAI) to save millions of dollars and months in development time .

165 senior decision-makers on EV battery testing, validation, and development in the global automotive industry were surveyed for their views on the use of artificial intelligence (AI).

Dr. Richard Ahlfeld, CEO and Founder of Monolith, said: "EV development and particularly battery development is highly competitive, and with it comes a lot of pressure to move faster. Engineering AI can learn to solve problems much faster than any human, and that's what automotive leaders are starting to understand."

Reflecting the industry's emphasis on bringing competitive and sustainable products to market in the shortest possible time, the study highlights how 64% of automotive engineering leaders emphasize the need to reduce the time and effort spent on EV battery validation.

Despite this urgent need, 66% of senior decision-makers agree that it is imperative to reduce reliance on physical testing, while ensuring compliance with security and standards, with 62% agreeing that their current virtual validation tools, Including physical simulation, they do not fully guarantee that battery designs meet all validation criteria.

The influence that EngAI is increasingly having on the automotive industry has brought more attention to the technology among automotive engineering leaders. While 44% of respondents express serious concern about the potential effect the technology could have on their business workforce, more than half (58%) have stated that AI is critical to ensuring they remain competitive in EV battery development.

"Of course, there is uncertainty and misunderstanding around AI, but if you have to compress what used to take five years into three, engineers need to make the most of the new tools available to them. AI built specifically for engineering offers an intelligent and cost-effective solution for automotive industry leaders to gain a competitive advantage, faster," added Dr. Richard Ahlfeld, CEO and Founder of Monolith.
