Hyundai Creta began assembly in Ecuador

Ecuador. Hyundai's subsidiary in Ecuador began assembling the Creta subcompact SUV locally. Until now, the subcompact SUV was only manufactured regionally in Brazil.

The subsidiary of the Korean manufacturer announced the projections it has with the development of this new project in South America. Hyundai Creta's new assembly process takes a couple of weeks in Ecuador.

The model is currently advancing in its second generation, which debuted in the region during the second half of 2021.

In other regions, production of the subcompact in India is important, and it is also exported from Indonesia. In the case of the assembly process in Ecuador, the parts will arrive from the automaker's Indian headquarters, to finish the process. However, at least 20% of the components used are produced in Ecuador.

Hyundai has been present in Ecuador since 1970 with its own assembly plant, called Aymesa, located in the south of the capital, Quito. For the development of Hyundai Creta's new project and other related projects, an investment of 19 million dollars was made. This allows for greater processing capacity for the units, better technologies and equipment.

Hyundai expects to assemble 2,400 examples of the subcompact SUV in Ecuador per year.

"The investment in the manufacture of Crete in the country is a sign of our continued commitment to the region and our desire to be a trusted partner. We will work side by side to ensure the success of this initiative. We are excited about what the future holds for us in this exciting market," said Airton Cousseau, President of Hyundai Motor Brazil, Central and South America.

Among the features of the "Ecuadorian" Hyundai Creta are LED lights and 17-inch wheels, in addition to a 10-inch multimedia center screen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Adroid Auto. The model is equipped with a 1.5-liter engine with 114 horsepower.

The safety section includes six airbags, a hill start system and four-wheel disc brakes.
