Automechanika Kuala Lumpur will be an annual automotive event starting in 2024

Automechanika

International. With economic growth, electric vehicle (EV) adoption and industrial transformation accelerating at an unprecedented rate, Messe Frankfurt is extending its support to the Malaysian market by confirming an annual edition of Automechanika Kuala Lumpur.

The once-biennial event has been a gateway for trade between the country and the rest of the world for more than 20 years. In this time, its format has evolved from a purely business-focused platform to one that incorporates activities and exhibitions for participants. The next show will take place from 1 to 3 August 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Fiona Chiew, Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt, said: "The decision for Automechanika Kuala Lumpur to become an annual event was based on feedback from government bodies, industry associations, exhibitors and visitors.

"Malaysia's New Industrial Master Plan 2030 was a recurring theme in our extensive discussions, where the EV sector will play a pivotal role in the medium to long term. So, with all corners of our network converging at the show, I think we can navigate these changes together."

Representatives from government agencies, associations, media, key exhibitors, and supporters of the Malaysian automotive industry attended the Automechanika Kuala Lumpur 2024 announcement event.

The strategic direction reflects the growing global focus on sustainability, technological innovation, and solutions for mobility and logistics across the automotive industry.

In fact, in recent months, many well-known brands have entered the domestic market to take advantage of first-mover advantages. An example of this is Proton's recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoA) with Smart Automobile, which aims to explore the possibility of assembling smart vehicles locally.

The Malaysian conglomerate said the collaboration is an important step in its production of electric vehicles and the broader goal of turning the country into a regional hub.

In addition, Tesla made a strong statement by announcing the introduction of several models to the Malaysian market. Meanwhile, BYD has taken an early lead in sales generation thanks to a strategic partnership with local dealer Sime Darby Motors.

Ms Chiew added: "Automechanika Kuala Lumpur will continue to provide opportunities for marketing, training, information exchange and business exchange; however, it will do so at a much faster and more frequent rate."

"It reflects the speed at which the automotive industry is evolving. Participants can expect to see the latest innovations coming to the local market, while Malaysian businesses can benefit from the show's network across ASEAN. Ultimately, this will contribute to the country's growing influence in the regional automotive supply chain."
