Mexican auto parts industry breaks all-time production record

Carros

Mexico. In line with the sustained growth of recent months, the production of auto parts will exceed 117,500 million dollars by the end of 2023. This was reported at a press conference by the National Auto Parts Industry (INA).

Armando Cortés, general director of the association, explained that in August of this year there was a historical record in the manufacture of automotive components, with a value of US$10,682 million, representing an increase of 14% compared to the figures recorded in August 2022. According to the Association, this demonstrates the dynamism and leadership of the national sector.

In addition, the INA stated that, in August 2023, the employment figure reached 904,000 jobs, strengthening the role of industry for the country's economic development.

In relation to the strike initiated on September 15 by the UAW union in the United States, Cortés mentioned that, from the beginning of the work stoppage until the end of October, the estimated cumulative decrease in the production of national auto parts was US$785 million; that is, just over 1% of exports to the United States in 2022.

Finally, the INA emphasized the issue of infrastructure for electromobility, reporting that Mexico has 1,189 charging stations for light electric vehicles (EVs), which translates into 2,089 connectors in the country.

Armando Cortés explained that the figure represents a ratio of approximately 7:1 in terms of cars per installed charger, so it is necessary to continue promoting this issue on the national agenda.
