Carros

During the past month, 90,368 new light vehicles were marketed; 1690 more compared to the 88,688 sold in June 2021. This according to the results of the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (RAIAVL).

With this data, the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA) and the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA) indicated that during the period January-June of this year 518,424 cars were sold. This means a reduction of 0.4% compared to the 520,524 vehicles marketed in the same period of 2021.

In the last month, the top 10 best-selling brands in Mexico was led by Nissan with 16.9% market share. This was followed by General Motors (14.7%), Volkswagen Group (11.4%), Toyota (9.7%) and KIA (8.6%).

However, Nissan recorded a 19.6% drop in sales during June with 13,975 vehicles sold compared to 17,383 in the same month of 2021. With this, the accumulated of the semester of the Japanese brand resulted in a decrease of 19.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.

For its part, the English firm MG Motor remained in seventh place in this ranking but with a growth of 150.6% in June with sales of 4009 units compared to 1,600 the previous year.

Productive recovery
On the other hand, during the recent emblematic exhibition of the Mexican Association of Machinery Distributors (AMDM), EXPOMAQ 2022, the National Auto Parts Industry (INA) indicated that the production of cars in Mexico could reach 3,471,806 units in this 2022.

This projection, made from the information collected by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), would reflect a recovery of 16.53% in units produced compared to 2021. However, it is a figure far from the 3.8 million of 2019, prior to the pandemic; a level that, according to data from Statista.com, would only resume in 2025.
