Latin America. The unions representing the industry and the import of vehicles in Colombia, Fenalco and ANDI, projected the sale of 265,000 new cars at the end of this year, which would be equivalent to an increase of 6.0% compared to sales in 2021.

During the presentation of the balance sheet of the automotive sector, both associations pointed out that in the accumulated at the end of the first half of 2022, 123,766 new vehicles have been registered, which translates into growth of 11.5% compared to the same period of 2021 and 6.7% in terms of the same period of 2019.

According to the registration information provided by the National Traffic Registry (RUNT), in June 2022 23,306 new vehicles were registered, which represented an increase of 14.1% compared to June 2021 and 19.8% compared to the same month of 2019.

As for the segment of hybrid and electric vehicles, whose growth was 194.7% in 2021 compared to 2020, despite the pandemic and public order problems, growth is projected for this year compared to the previous one above 100%.

Eduardo Visbal, Vice President of Foreign Trade and Vehicles of Fenalco, said that "it is expected that this year there will be a significant rebound to reach 265,000 units, thus meeting the dammed demand that exists in the sector due to the global logistics crisis, the shortage of electronic components."

At the same time, he indicated that vehicle importers and the entire commercial chain of the sector are ready to bet on new combustion and safety technologies so that the country advances in these matters.
Productive chains
The ANDI-Fenalco alliance #En4ruedas highlighted that in 2021 the automotive sector actively contributed to the process of economic reactivation of the country.

As indicated, this is part of an important chain of multiple productive chains, trade and an important network of workshops and automotive centers, which generate more than 500,000 jobs along the production chain (26,000), marketing (106,000), repair and maintenance (293,000).

Juliana Rico, director of the Chamber of the Automotive Industry of the ANDI, highlighted the importance of the sector in the economy, mainly for its contribution to GDP, the generation of highly qualified employment, exports and its more than twelve productive chains that involve different related sectors.
