Continental partners with Google Cloud to equip vehicles with generative AI

Car IA

International. Continental announced that it has partnered with Google Cloud, with the goal of being able to equip cars with generative artificial intelligence (AI).

This makes the German company one of the first suppliers in the automotive industry to integrate the capabilities of Google Cloud directly into the computers of each unit.

With this alliance, drivers will be able to interact with their car, because if they need help finding the right tire pressure, when the car is fully charged, generative artificial intelligence can collect the necessary information and be able to answer the driver's questions.

Philipp von Hirschheydt, member of Continental's Executive Board and head of the Automotive group sector, said that together with Google they are bringing AI to the cockpit of the car and creating an intuitive experience for drivers.

"Based on our high-performance Smart Cockpit computer, we expect our solution to be production-ready in just 18 months of development. This is how our vision of software-defined vehicles begins to become a reality," he said.

Continental forecasts that, over the next ten years, sales of high-performance car computers will amount to billions of euros.

With this partnership, they want the system to collect detailed information in real time and play it back to the driver as an audio guide. The driver can ask follow-up questions without repeating the entire context, so Continental ensures that the system has access to car-specific information.

Google Cloud's generative artificial intelligence allows the system to constantly learn, create new content, and adapt to user preferences.

Daniel Holz, Vice President of Google Cloud EMEA North, said they are excited to partner with Continental, as they will combine expertise in software, AI and cloud computing with the knowledge of their automotive industry partner.

"Together we can create a new generation of digital automotive solutions that are more convenient and improve safety for drivers and passengers."
