Aridra supports the right to reparation

Mecánico

Mexico. The Asociación Nacional de Representantes, Importadores y Distribuidores de Refacciones y Accesorios para Automóviles (Aridra) signed a joint declaration to defend the right of citizens to repair vehicles with the parts of their choice.

To this was added the National Auto Parts Industry (INA), according to which the automotive industry of spare parts and services maintains 1500 million vehicles on the roads worldwide and contributes 1.8 trillion dollars to the global economy.

As both associations argue, as soon as vehicles leave their warranty period, independent repair shops perform 70% of repairs.

According to the guild's organizations, this right is threatened by vehicle manufacturers who block access to vehicle repair and maintenance data.

This global movement empowers the vehicle user to choose where and with which parts to repair their vehicle. In addition, it sets out some principles for developing a legislative framework on the right to reparation for any country to use and adapt.

The global declaration lists the movement's fundamental principles, objectives and expected outcomes of legislation on the right to reparation.

Without this power of choice for independent parts and repairs, consumers will have limited access to vehicle services and repairs affordably.

In 2022, the value of the spare parts market in Mexico reached 30,000 million dollars, which generated around 800,000 jobs.

It should be noted that Australia and South Africa have successfully achieved the right of their drivers to repair their vehicles.

These countries are a model for similar legislation in Mexico, providing a level playing field and keeping the consumer at the center of decision-making throughout the transportation ecosystem.
