BorgWarner to expand production of electric mobility technologies

BorgWarner

Mexico. BorgWarner announced an investment in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, including a new manufacturing facility focused on power electronics and electric motors.

According to the company, the choice of San Luis Potosí is due to considering it a strategic location to support responsible actions as a key player in the supply chain of the industry in Mexico and around the world.

After operating for more than eight years in the Mexican state, the company indicated that the plant in San Luis Potosí will be one of the first to integrate a clean room, becoming an electromobility manufacturing center.

It will also house a product validation testing lab, with a focus on inverters, opening the door for the development of new technologies in-house.

The Secretary of Economic Development of San Luis Potosí, Juan Carlos Valladares, and the Mayor of Villa De Reyes, Daniel Lagunas, attended the inauguration ceremony. Dr. Stefan Demmerle, president and general manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, and Ulises Pérez, plant manager of the San Luis Potosí plant, were also present at the inauguration.

"We are very proud of this project, which is firmly committed to enabling a sustainable future. Our Charging Forward 2027 strategy demands agility and innovation, so we have a responsibility to drive the transition to electrification not only in manufacturing but also in product development." Demmerle said.

The new plant is expected to be open by the second quarter of 2024.

Currently, BorgWarner has a manufacturing plant in San Luis Potosi, located in the Tres Naciones industrial park, which is 100% dedicated to the assembly of integrated electric drive units (iDM) for light electric vehicles for global OEM customers, as well as components for eMotors.
