Mexico. As part of Ford's centennial in Mexico, the Government of Guanajuato recognized the automotive company for its strategic role in the economic and industrial growth of the state.
During a ceremony led by Libyan Governor Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, Ford's positive impact since its arrival in 2015 was highlighted with the installation of its transmission plant in Irapuato, which currently produces the powertrain of the Mustang Mach-E, the first mass-produced electric vehicle made in Mexico.
The State Secretary of Economy, Claudia Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar, underscored the relevance of the company in the transformation of the industry towards electromobility and advanced manufacturing.
"Ford is part of an ecosystem that generates prosperity for more than 215 thousand families in Guanajuato. In the state, there are more than 7,600 economic units linked to the automotive and auto parts sector," he said.
Currently, the automotive industry represents 72% of the state's exports, with a value of 26 thousand 141 million dollars. In addition, it positions Guanajuato as a national leader in automotive production value, with more than 658 billion pesos. In 2024 alone, 896 thousand units were assembled, a record figure that reflects the competitiveness of the entity.
Investments for an electric future
During the current administration, Guanajuato has attracted 23 investment projects, of which 10 belong to the automotive sector, with a spillover of more than 2,352 million dollars and more than 7,000 jobs generated.
Ford has been a protagonist of this dynamic, in line with the state strategy to promote electromobility. Projects in this area exceed 2,298 million dollars and it is estimated that they will generate 11,200 new jobs.
Villaseñor Aguilar also highlighted the opening, in 2024, of Ford's Learning and Skills Development Center, where specialized talent is trained for the industry of the future.
"We train in leadership, teamwork and technical skills because human resources are the basis of our industrial strength," he said.
Fertile ground for sustainability
The official assured that Guanajuato will continue to support the energy transition of the automotive industry, through production chain policies and development of suppliers focused on hybrid and electric vehicles.
"We are fertile ground for electromobility and we will continue to work with Ford and other companies to consolidate this future," he said.
At the end of his speech, Villaseñor Aguilar thanked Ford for its trust and reaffirmed the commitment of the state government.
"We celebrate a century of Ford in Mexico and in Guanajuato we accelerate to another 100 years of innovation."
The event was attended by Ford Motor Company President and CEO Jim Farley; the President of Ford Blue and Ford Model E, Andrew Frick; the President and CEO of Ford Mexico, Lucien Pinto; the Ambassador of the United States to Mexico, Ronald Douglas Johnson; the Undersecretary of Industry and Commerce, Vidal Llerenas Morales; as well as state authorities from Chihuahua, Sonora and the State of Mexico.
