International. The ATMOsphere Summit (ATMO) MAC 2024 × TU Berlin, which will be held on September 12 and 13, promises to be a turning point in the development of mobile natural refrigerant technologies.
It will feature prominent participation from automotive giants such as Volkswagen, Ford Motor and DENSO, as well as Deutsche Bahn, Germany's national train company.
The event, organized by ATMOsphere in collaboration with the Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin), will bring together industry leaders, policy experts, and academics to explore the latest innovations in mobile air conditioning (MAC) systems and heat pumps that use natural refrigerants such as CO2 (R744) and propane (R290).
Stefan Elbel, Professor and Head of the Department of Heat Transfer and Heat Conversion at TU Berlin, will open the summit with a speech focusing on the evolution of competition between natural refrigerants in mobile applications. The program will also include key presentations from Volkswagen and Ford, which will showcase their latest solutions in heat pumps based on R290 and R744, while Deutsche Bahn will share its advances in the operation and maintenance of propane-based HVAC systems in passenger trains.
The event will not only focus on technology, but will also address the changing regulatory landscape. A policy panel, featuring Arno Kaschl from the European Commission and Sidsel Dyekjær from ChemSec, will look at crucial developments, such as the proposed restriction on PFAS substances and the EU's new F-Gas Regulation.
The second day of the summit will offer technical case studies on the integration of CO2 and propane systems in vehicles, from cars to trains, with renowned speakers such as Dr. Roman Heckt from Hanon Systems and Karsten Mundt from Konvekta.
