Stellantis and CEA innovate batteries for electric vehicles

International. In a strategic move towards sustainable innovation, Stellantis has announced a five-year partnership with French research institution CEA.

This collaboration focuses on the development of advanced battery cell technologies for electric vehicles, promising superior performance, long lifespan and a reduced environmental footprint.

The joint program will seek to revolutionize battery cells through disruptive chemistries, thorough life-cycle assessments, and the meticulous design of new technologies. This initiative not only strengthens Stellantis ' position in the electric mobility market, but also boosts its ambition to offer more accessible and environmentally friendly electric vehicles for the future.

"Our partnership with CEA marks a significant milestone in our quest for leadership in clean and sustainable mobility," said Ned Curic, Stellantis' chief engineering and technology officer.

"We are committed to accelerating the arrival of disruptive battery cell technologies that support our vision of a future of clean, safe and accessible mobility," added Ned Curic.

For its part, CEA brings more than 25 years of lithium-ion battery experience and an unwavering approach to decarbonization. Philippe Stohr, Head of the CEA Energy division, said: "This exciting project not only reflects our commitment to technological innovation, but also strengthens our position as pioneers in the transition to more sustainable energy."

The joint program aims to transform the electric vehicle market with more efficient and economical batteries, and the alliance reinforces Stellantis' commitment to its Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan. This plan aims to make Stellantis a net-zero carbon corporation by 2038, aligning with global sustainability goals.

This partnership marks a landmark collaboration between Stellantis and CEA, where both actors underscore their shared dedication to a cleaner and more sustainable future for the global automotive industry.
