Nokian Tires invests US$174 million to double production in Dayton

United States. When Nokian Tires opened its North American factory in 2019, it committed to creating 400 jobs in Rhea County.
The expansion of Nokian's Dayton factory includes a warehouse of 600,000 tires.

Nokian Tires will create 75 new jobs at its Dayton, Tennessee, factory by 2023 as the company aims to double tire capacity.

The company celebrated the start of capacity expansion, which also includes an on-site storage depot, at an event with state, local and company officials.

The expansion and warehouse are in line with the investment originally announced by Nokian Tyres, which required the facility to reach its full capacity of up to four million tires.

The total value of the originally planned 75 new jobs and capacity and warehouse expansion is about $174 million, Nokia said.

When Nokian Tires opened its North American factory in 2019, it committed to creating 400 jobs in Rhea County.

As the company adds positions and equipment this year in pursuit of full capacity, it is partnering with the state and community to increase the total number of employees to 475.

"As demand for our tires grows in the U.S. and Canada, our expanded Dayton factory will supply customers with an increasing number of safe and sustainable all-seasonal, all-weather products," said Tommi Heinonen, vice president of sales for Nokian Tyres.

"We are pleased to see that the factory provides more jobs for American workers and more tires for American drivers," he said.

Nokian said the construction of a 600,000-tire warehouse connected to the Dayton factory will join the company's network of nine warehouses in the U.S. and Canada and serve the growing volume of customers in Sun Belt. The company plans to bring the warehouse online by mid-2024.

"We strive to be an employer of choice in southeast Tennessee, and that's been our focus since day one of our operations," said Dayton factory chief operating officer David Korda.

"As we grow, we are excited to provide satisfying opportunities for professional growth that will also help our factory and company grow."
