Unison Shanghai begins construction of its first plant in Mexico

Mexico. The ZS Automotive Components Mexico SA de CV plant, a subsidiary of the Chinese automotive company Unison Shanghai, specializing in aluminum components and auto parts, began construction in the municipality of Villa de Reyes, San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

The investment reaches 400 million dollars and is expected to generate a total of 3,000 jobs at its location within the WTC Industrial Park.

The range of products that the plant will manufacture ranges from bumpers and front subframes to instrument panel frames, battery trays, among other aluminum auto parts for electric vehicles.

The Secretary of Economic Development, Juan Carlos Valladares, led the groundbreaking ceremony of Unison Shanghai in Villa de Reyes. Accompanied by Winsong Weng, Vice President of Overseas Operations of Unison Shanghai, Michele Porrino, Director of the WTC Industrial Park, and Alejandro Zarazúa, Director of Urban Development of the Municipality of Villa de Reyes, Valladares highlighted the importance of this investment for economic development and job creation in the entity.

Initially, the plant in San Luis Potosí will export all of its production to Tesla, Volvo and BMW in the United States, but it is expected that in the next three to five years it will be able to market 60% of its production with assembly plants located in Mexican territory.
