Mexico would triple car assembly in 2023

Ensamblaje

Mexico. According to a report by the Business Intelligence Area of Directorio Automotriz, Mexico will have produced around 221,970 electric vehicles by the end of 2023.

This would represent an increase of 179% compared to 2022, where models such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E, will be the most produced in the automakers installed in the country.

Last year, electric vehicle assembly accounted for 2.4% of the total light vehicles assembled in the country. However, this year that proportion could exceed 6%.

Meanwhile, the commercialization of 100% electric cars aims to raise growth to triple digits, since from April several Chinese brands began to sell ecological units in Mexico.

An example of this is BYD, which wants to sell 5,000 electric cars. To this is added ARRA with another 2,000 by 2023.

From 2020 to 2022, the automotive industry in Mexico has produced more than 157,730 electric cars, of which 79,471 units were assembled in 2022.

The model that capitalized on the market was the Ford Mustang Mach-E with 77,897, followed by the JAC E 10X with 911 units of JAC Mexico (Giant Motors Latin America).

Other brands for their part have decided to change the production of their vehicles and in that sense Mexico has become a great ally.

Currently, the northeast concentrates 41% of the country's electromobility supply, while the Bajío region represents another 40%. Guanajuato has been the leading entity in the region.

According to the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA), the sale of 100% electric cars in Mexico will increase 394% by the end of 2022, when the industry will market 5,631 units compared to 1,140 cars in 2021.
