The Electro Mobility Association (EMA) emerges in Mexico

EV

Mexico. In order to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Mexico and promote environmental stewardship, leading automotive and charger companies have joined forces to form the Electro Mobility Association (EMA).

This coalition, made up of industry giants such as BYD, Evergo, JAC, SEV, Tesla, VEMO and Volvo, has as its central objective the transformation of the Mexican automotive landscape towards total electrification by 2035.

Aware of the country's lag behind its trading partners in EV adoption, EMA members are committed to intensifying their investments in Mexico to introduce new electric technologies. The association's president, Shirley Wagner, will lead lobbying efforts with the government and other private sector actors to push for public policies that favor this transition.

The EMA, which represents more than 40,275 electric vehicles and more than 32,175 chargers installed in Mexico, has as its initial goal to electrify the country's main cities. In addition, it will focus on increasing public awareness of electromobility and promoting regulations that facilitate its mass adoption.

The EMA is inspired by successful examples of similar organizations in other countries, such as ZETA in the United States, Electric Mobility in Canada and the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), with whom it has memorandums of understanding. Its focus will be on promoting favorable regulations, electromobility education, and the development of charging infrastructure.

The EMA will be chaired by Shirley Wagner, a renowned lawyer who is an expert in electromobility and renewable energy. Despite current progress, challenges such as a lack of public charging infrastructure and 'range anxiety' among consumers remain, which the association seeks to address through its initiatives.

The formation of the Electro Mobility Association represents an important milestone in the drive towards a sustainable future in Mexico, where the electrification of transport is presented as a key solution to reduce emissions and ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.
